Mosquito Bay is the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world, and you can only enter it with a licensed operator. All four sit in one table below.
The glow comes from Pyrodinium bahamense, a single-celled organism that flashes when water moves around it. Vieques holds the densest concentration anyone has recorded, bright enough that your paddle leaves a comet trail behind the boat. Leave the sunscreen and the phone camera behind. Sunscreen poisons a protected bay, and no phone sensor can resolve the light, so your guide will ask you to put it away.

On the water
Tours run about two hours, most of it in a two-person kayak. You paddle in the dark while a guide leads the raft of boats. Tell them when you book if you have not kayaked before, and they will put an experienced paddler in your boat.
Bring a dry bag and dry clothes, and put bug spray on before you leave your room. Sprayed at the launch, it washes straight into a protected bay. You will get wet on the way back.
