The best meals on Vieques are split between a handful of proper restaurants and a few trucks parked in car parks. Review sites tend to find the first group and miss the second.
Two things shape eating here. Kitchens close on days that are not posted anywhere, and stock arrives by barge, so a menu can lose an item for a week. Call ahead when a meal matters, and keep a second option in mind.

Book the busy ones
The cool-down after a day on Esperanza beach.
Near the ferry terminal, which makes it a good first or last meal around a crossing.
A local default on the malecón strip, and one of the easier places to eat without a reservation.
Closed some weekdays. Check the current schedule before walking over.
Open arches catch the sea breeze off the Esperanza malecón, and most people call it the most romantic dinner on the island.
On Wednesdays the kitchen closes and a food truck pulls up to the curb instead, with happy hour and local musicians.
Food trucks and casual
Where locals eatTrucks park in the same spots most weeks without keeping a published schedule. The taco truck at the east end of the Esperanza malecón is the one repeat visitors plan around, and Gonzo's Garden in Isabel Segunda brings one to the curb on Wednesdays when its own kitchen closes.
Out past the airport, so pair it with a beach day on that side rather than driving out on its own.
Open three days a week. Confirm the day before you drive out.
Parked in the lot at the east end of the Esperanza malecón. Repeat visitors treat it as a fixed stop rather than a backup.

Fish market
Cook it yourselfIf your rental has a kitchen, the fish market in Isabel Segunda is the best value on the island. Local catch, sold whole, at prices no restaurant can match. Go early, because the counter follows the boats rather than a posted schedule.
Groceries
Shop early in the tripEverything on the shelves crossed on a barge, so selection swings week to week and prices run above the mainland. Buy anything specific on your first day rather than your third, and bring a cooler of staples over if you are self-catering for a week.
