Vieques has one airport, Antonio Rivera Rodríguez (VQS), and three places you can fly in from. Cape Air runs the route from the international airport at San Juan. Vieques Air Link runs the routes from Isla Grande and from Ceiba.

Book SJU when you are connecting off a mainland flight the same day, and Isla Grande when you have a night in San Juan first. Ceiba is the one you book standing at the ferry terminal, after a sailing falls through.

The two San Juan airports are not the same place

Isla Grande (SIG) sits on the San Juan waterfront near the Convention Center. Luis Muñoz Marín (SJU) sits in Carolina, a 20-minute drive east. A traveller who lands at SJU and books a Vieques Air Link seat has to leave the airport, cross the city, and check in again at a terminal that looks more like a marina office than an airport.

Make that trip when you have already planned a night in Old San Juan: Isla Grande sits closer to it and the fare runs lower. On a two-hour connection, book Cape Air out of SJU instead and stay in the terminal you landed in.

Baggage on a nine-seat plane

Vieques Air Link allows 25 lbs across everything you carry, and its policy counts your carry-on and personal items inside that 25, not on top of it. Anything over costs $2.00 a pound, and no single piece may exceed 22″ × 15″ × 9″. Pack to a mainland airline's 50 lb limit and you hand over $50 at the counter.
